Amazon Seller Central
Amazon Account Management for Brands That Sell in the US
Written by Gulfam Haidar, Founder, GrowEventure. Last updated 26 August 2026.
Amazon account management is the day to day running of your Seller Central account by an outside team. It covers listings, advertising, inventory planning, account health and the cases you file when something breaks. Most brands bring in help when the admin load starts costing more in lost sales than the fee would. We have run this work since 2019 and moved more than $100 million in marketplace sales.
Amazon changed your titles on 27 July 2026
Start here, because it affects every listing you own.
On 27 July 2026 Amazon cut the product title field to 75 characters in every category except media. A second field, Item Highlights, now holds up to 125 characters. The two still add up to 200, but they are separate fields and they behave differently. Item Highlights went live across desktop and mobile on 10 August 2026, and it is searchable.
Now the part that costs money. Titles that break the new limit get replaced with Amazon's own AI suggestion. Brand owners get 14 days to review, edit or approve that change inside Review Listing Changes. Miss the window and Amazon's version stands.
If you wrote your titles under the old 200 character rule, every one of them is out of compliance today. Most brands we speak to have not opened Review Listing Changes at all.
We rewrite the 75 character title so the buying term sits in the first 30 characters, where mobile truncates. Then we move the specs, sizes, counts and compatibility notes into Item Highlights, because that field is searchable and it feeds the comparison panels shoppers now see. We check Review Listing Changes weekly so Amazon's draft never goes live by default.
What the work covers
Account management is a standing job, not a project. Here is what sits inside it.
Catalogue and content
Title and Item Highlights rewrites, bullet points, A+ content, brand store pages, variation families, and the flat file work that fixes attributes Amazon keeps overwriting. Category and browse node placement, because the wrong node hides good listings from filters.
Advertising
Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and DSP where the spend supports it. Search term harvesting, negative keyword sweeps, bid rules by placement, and budget pacing so campaigns do not run dry before the day ends. We report on total advertising cost of sales, not just ad ACOS, because ad ACOS improves whenever you spend less and that tells you nothing.
Inventory and fulfilment
Restock timing, shipment plans, removal orders, stranded and unfulfillable inventory, and the reconciliation work that recovers money Amazon owes you on lost or damaged units.
Account health and cases
Policy monitoring, listing suppressions, intellectual property notices, and appeals. This is the part most brands underestimate, so it gets its own section below.
Reporting
Search Query Performance and Search Catalog Performance inside Brand Analytics, plus Custom Analytics, which Amazon released free at Accelerate in September 2025 and which pulls more than 100 metrics into one view. We use Manage Your Experiments for image and title tests. Those need four to ten weeks to reach significance, so we run them on your top sellers, not on everything.
Account health is the part that ends businesses
Your Account Health Rating sits on a scale from 0 to 1,000. Above 200 is healthy. Between 100 and 199 you are at risk. Below 100 your account is eligible for deactivation.
The score climbs roughly four points per 200 sales. Read that again, because it changes how you should think about the whole thing. Reaching 1,000 takes tens of thousands of clean orders across 180 days. You cannot rebuild the score quickly after a bad month. Protecting it is worth far more than repairing it, and a single critical violation can take it to zero.
The four metrics Amazon measures against you:
| Metric | Target | Window |
|---|---|---|
| Order Defect Rate | Under 1% | 60 days |
| Late Shipment Rate | Under 4% | 10 or 30 days |
| Pre-Fulfilment Cancellation Rate | Under 2.5% | 7 days |
| Valid Tracking Rate | Above 95% | 30 days |
The last three apply to seller fulfilled orders only. If you run everything through FBA, Amazon carries those for you, which is a real argument for FBA that has nothing to do with Prime badges.
What Amazon actually costs you in 2026
Referral fees run from 5% to 45% depending on category. Most categories land between 8% and 15%, with a $0.30 minimum per item. The high end is narrow: Amazon Device Accessories sits at 45%, gift cards at 20%. Apparel priced at $15 or under drops to 5%.
On 15 January 2026 Amazon raised FBA fees by an average of $0.08 per unit, which it puts at under 0.5% of a typical item's selling price. Amazon also confirmed there would be no new FBA fee types in 2026 and no referral fee increase. There was no US increase in 2025 either.
The fee story in 2026 is stable. The disruptive changes, meaning the inventory placement fee, the low inventory surcharge and the extended storage fees, all landed in 2025. Several agency blogs still date them to 2026. If someone is selling you urgency about this year's fees, check what they are actually pointing at.
How shoppers find you now
On 13 May 2026 Amazon renamed Rufus to Alexa for Shopping and merged it with Alexa+. It was a combination of two products, not a shutdown, and the assistant now answers questions in the main search bar, builds comparisons, shows up to a full year of price history, and can complete purchases for the shopper.
That changes what a good listing looks like. Shoppers ask for outcomes and audiences, not head terms. Someone types a question about which option suits a small kitchen, and the assistant answers from your attributes. Complete, accurate structured data does more for you there than a keyword stuffed title, which is convenient, because Amazon just took most of your title away.
You will also see agencies claim that a system called COSMO replaced Amazon's ranking algorithm. COSMO is real. Amazon published it at SIGMOD in 2024 and it builds a knowledge graph of commonsense links between queries and products. But Amazon has never confirmed it runs live customer facing ranking. Anyone stating that as fact is guessing.
Amazon has no seller editable alt text field for product images. Amazon generates that text from your title and attributes. If an agency quotes you for Amazon image alt text optimisation, they are billing for a deliverable that does not exist on the platform. It is a general web SEO idea imported by someone who has not worked inside Seller Central.
Amazon closed its own managed service
Amazon runs a paid programme called Strategic Account Services, where you get a designated customer success manager. It is the obvious first thing to consider before hiring anyone outside.
As of now, Amazon's own page says the programme is at full capacity and unable to accept new enrollments. You can join an interest list. Amazon gives no timeline and no guarantee.
We would rather you knew that than found it out after three weeks of waiting. It is also the honest reason a lot of brands end up talking to agencies at all. Note too that Amazon publishes no price for the programme. The percentage figures you will find quoted online come from agency blogs citing each other, not from Amazon.
How we run an account
Weeks one and two
A full audit before we touch anything. Catalogue health, suppressed and stranded listings, title compliance against the July rules, Account Health Rating and every open violation, campaign structure, wasted spend, and inventory cover. You get the findings whether or not you continue with us.
Month one
Fix the things losing money now. Suppressions, buy box loss, out of stock top sellers, campaigns with spend and no orders. Title and Item Highlights rewrites on your revenue drivers first, never the whole catalogue at once, because a mass edit across a large catalogue invites errors you then spend a month unwinding.
Ongoing
Weekly search term review, bid adjustments, restock planning, account health checks, and a monthly report that shows total advertising cost of sales, organic share, and what moved. You get a named person, not a ticket queue.
When you should not hire us
Most agency pages skip this. It is the most useful section here.
- You are under roughly $20,000 a month in Amazon revenue. At that level a retainer eats too much of the margin. Learn the platform yourself, or buy a one off audit and act on it.
- You have one product and it is selling fine. There is not enough surface area for a team to work on. You need a good listing and a working campaign, not a manager.
- You only need a suspension appeal. Hire a reinstatement specialist for that single job. Do not sign a retainer to solve one problem.
- You want a guaranteed rank or a guaranteed sales number. Nobody can promise those honestly. If an agency does, ask them to put the refund terms in writing and watch what happens.
- Your product economics do not work. If your landed cost plus fees leaves nothing, no amount of management fixes that. We will tell you at the audit stage rather than take the retainer.
What this has produced
Four accounts we can point at, with the detail behind each on its own page.
- From zero to $6.2 million. A new brand taken from launch to eight figures of cumulative revenue.
- ACOS cut from 35% to 10% in six months. Mostly negative keyword work and placement bids, not budget cuts.
- $13,000 in 25 days. A launch window, not a steady state figure, and the page says so.
- A brand built from $5,000. Small starting budget, long time horizon.
Across every account since 2019 we have handled more than $100 million in marketplace sales, and our profiles across freelancing platforms carry more than 300 reviews at a 5.0 average. We would rather give you four cases you can read in full than a number on a banner.
Five questions to ask any agency, including us
Ask these before you sign anything. The answers separate operators from salespeople.
- Who is on my account and how many other accounts do they carry? A named person matters far less than their caseload. Eight to ten accounts per specialist is a working number. Twenty is a queue.
- Show me a real report from a live account with the brand redacted. Almost nobody will. An agency that reports well can show you the artefact in the sales call.
- What do I keep if I leave? Campaign structures, keyword research, creative files and flat files should all be yours. Get it in writing.
- What is your view on the July 2026 title change? If they do not know what you are referring to, they are not reading Seller Central announcements. This one is three weeks old and it affects every listing.
- Tell me about an account you lost and why. The answer tells you more than any case study will.
What this costs
Full account management starts at $1,500 per month for a single US marketplace, with a 90 day initial term and 30 days notice after that. Larger catalogues and multi marketplace work are quoted after the audit, because the driver is SKU count and case volume, not revenue.
Advertising management can be bundled or run on its own. The audit itself is free and yours to keep, including if you take the findings and do the work in house.
We publish this because most agencies do not, and because you should be able to work out whether we are worth a call before you book one.
Common questions
What is Amazon account management?
It is the ongoing operation of your Seller Central account by an external team. That includes listing content, advertising, inventory planning, account health monitoring and case work with Amazon. It differs from a one off project because the platform changes constantly and someone has to keep up with it.
How long is the Amazon title now?
Since 27 July 2026 the product title is capped at 75 characters in all categories except media. A separate Item Highlights field holds up to 125 characters and is searchable. Titles over the limit are replaced with an Amazon AI suggestion, and brand owners get 14 days to review it.
What Account Health Rating do I need?
Above 200 on Amazon's 0 to 1,000 scale is healthy. Between 100 and 199 is at risk. Below 100 makes your account eligible for deactivation. The score rises about four points per 200 sales, so it recovers slowly.
Can I just use Amazon's own Strategic Account Services instead?
Not at the moment. Amazon states the programme is at full capacity and is not accepting new enrollments. You can join an interest list, but Amazon gives no timeline.
How much does an Amazon agency cost?
Published rates across the market generally run from about $1,500 to over $10,000 a month, depending on catalogue size, marketplace count and whether advertising is included. Ours starts at $1,500 for a single US marketplace. Be careful comparing quotes that do not state SKU count or case handling, because that is where the real work sits.
Did Amazon fees go up in 2026?
Slightly. FBA fees rose by an average of $0.08 per unit on 15 January 2026, which Amazon puts at under 0.5% of a typical selling price. There were no new FBA fee types and no referral fee increase.
How long before I see results?
Fixes to suppressions, buy box loss and wasted ad spend show up within days. Content and ranking changes take longer. Amazon's own A/B testing tool needs four to ten weeks to reach significance, which is a fair guide to how long a real content change takes to prove itself.
Do you work with brands outside the US?
Yes. Most of our clients sell into the US marketplace from elsewhere. We also manage Walmart, eBay, Target Plus, Temu, Wayfair, TikTok Shop and Home Depot accounts, and several clients run more than one.
Our Guarantee
What we put in writing
What you always get
- One named account manager who knows your account, not a rotating pool
- A written report every month covering what we changed and why
- Every file, login and asset stays yours, handed over on request
What you never get
- No lock-in. Cancel any month, with no notice period
- No setup fee, and the audit before you start is free
- If we miss the scope we agreed in your first 30 days, that month is free
We do not promise a ranking, a Buy Box share or a sales figure, because those sit with the platform and not with us. We promise the work, the reporting and the terms above, and all three go in the contract.
