Home Depot Virtual Assistant
& Account Manager

Home Depot has no marketplace. You sell to Home Depot as a supplier, not on it as a seller, and that changes everything about how the account is run.

A Home Depot virtual assistant runs your supplier account the way it actually works: purchase orders in and invoices out over EDI, drop-ship orders through OrderStream, item data and digital assets built to Home Depot spec, compliance metrics watched in Supplier Performance Management, and campaigns run through Orange Apron Media. If you are looking for a marketplace listing tool, this is not that, and knowing the difference early saves you months.

What We Offer

How We Help You Grow

OrderStream Drop-Ship Operations

Daily order retrieval, acknowledgement, shipment confirmation and tracking through OrderStream, the Rithum platform Home Depot uses for direct fulfilment. This is the operational heartbeat of a drop-ship account.

EDI Accuracy

Purchase orders arrive as EDI 850 and must be acknowledged with a 997. Shipments go back as 856 ASNs, invoices as 810, remittance arrives as 820, and inventory as 846. Most compliance problems are EDI problems wearing a different hat.

Item Data & Digital Assets

Home Depot has specific requirements for item attributes, imagery and content. Rejected or defective item data blocks publication and is a recurring source of compliance offsets.

Compliance & SPM Disputes

Supplier Performance Management in Supplier Hub is where your compliance metrics live and where deductions are disputed. The dispute window is monthly and unforgiving, miss it and the deduction stands.

Inventory & Lead Times

Accurate stock feeds and realistic lead times, kept current so you are not cancelling orders you cannot fulfil. Cancellations are the fastest way to damage a supplier relationship here.

Orange Apron Media

Home Depot’s retail media network, with the Orange Access self-service platform covering onsite, search, display, video and in-store placements. We build and manage campaigns against your wholesale margin.

What Makes Home Depot Different

Five things that surprise marketplace sellers

There is genuinely no marketplace

Home Depot states it plainly on its own supplier page: “Although we don’t offer a marketplace, we do have established onboarding paths.” There is no seller account, no listing fee, no referral commission and no Buy Box. You become an approved supplier or you do not sell.

You are a vendor invoicing against POs

The transaction model is wholesale. Home Depot issues a purchase order, you ship and invoice, Home Depot remits payment. There is no commission structure anywhere in the supplier documentation because there is no commission, the economics are set by your negotiated cost.

Home Depot sets the retail price

You transmit inventory, not price. Home Depot decides what the customer pays. Its own chargeback vocabulary includes a pricing discrepancy code triggered when an invoiced amount exceeds what Home Depot expects the product to cost, which tells you everything about who controls the number.

Onboarding is merchant-gated, not open

Anyone can submit a product for consideration, but a Home Depot merchant decides. Their prospective-supplier guidance says the merchant team will make contact within 60 days for merchandising submissions, and for non-merchandising you may resubmit if you have not heard back in 90 days. Supplier Hub credentials only arrive after you have an executed Supplier Buying Agreement and a vendor number.

Compliance offsets are real, and the schedule is private

Home Depot applies offsets for late or missing ASNs, routing-guide violations and item-data defects. The current schedule is published to suppliers inside Supplier Hub rather than publicly. Be sceptical of any agency quoting you exact dollar figures from a blog, several widely-repeated numbers actually relate to distribution-centre freight compliance, not drop-ship.

Home Depot By The Numbers

A very large channel with a very narrow door

Home Depot sells more online than almost any retailer in North America, and it does it without a marketplace. That combination is exactly why supplier access is worth the effort it takes.

What You Get

What a month of Home Depot supplier management looks like

Home Depot supplier management is an operations and compliance discipline first, and a marketing one second. Margin is protected by accuracy rather than won by optimisation:

  • Daily OrderStream order processing, shipment confirmation and tracking upload
  • EDI transaction monitoring across 850, 997, 856, 810, 820 and 846, with failures caught the same day
  • Item data and digital asset submissions built to Home Depot spec, plus rejection remediation
  • Compliance metric review in Supplier Performance Management, with root-cause fixes rather than repeat offsets
  • Deduction disputes filed inside the monthly SPM window, and merch payables disputes routed through the self-service portal
  • Inventory feed and lead-time maintenance to keep cancellation rate down
  • Orange Apron Media campaign management through Orange Access, measured against wholesale margin
  • A monthly report covering PO volume, fill rate, compliance offsets taken and recovered, and ad performance

A good fit if

  • You already have a Supplier Buying Agreement and a vendor number
  • Your products fit home improvement, hardware, decor, appliances or outdoor
  • You can support EDI, directly or through a provider
  • You can hold US inventory and ship direct to consumers reliably
  • Your margin works on a negotiated wholesale cost

Probably not a fit if

  • You want a self-serve marketplace listing, Home Depot does not have one
  • You need control over your retail price
  • You have no EDI capability and no appetite to add it
  • You want guaranteed onboarding, the merchant decides, not us
  • You cannot meet drop-ship lead times consistently

The Operating Reality

Four things that decide a Home Depot supplier account

SRS and GMS changed who Home Depot buys from

Home Depot bought SRS Distribution for $18.25 billion in 2024 and completed the GMS acquisition in September 2025 at around $5.5 billion enterprise value. That added more than 800 SRS locations and over 300 GMS distribution centres. The part suppliers should notice is what happened to QuoteCenter, which used to lean on third party distributor networks and now runs on SRS inventory inside Home Depot. Home Depot has also said 90% of stores made at least one sale through SRS in the last twelve months. If your category touches Pro or building products, the internal supply chain is now a competitor as well as a customer.

EDI accuracy is the account, not a technical detail

Purchase orders arrive as EDI 850 and need a 997 acknowledgement. Shipments go back as 856 advance ship notices, invoices as 810, remittance arrives as 820 and inventory goes out as 846. Compliance offsets almost always trace back to one of these transactions being late, missing or wrong. Supplier facing compliance material describes penalties tied to advance ship notice timeliness and accuracy, and disputes handled only inside the supplier performance application on a monthly cycle. Miss the window and the deduction is final, whatever the merits.

Fulfilment expectations keep tightening

Home Depot now reports that more than 65% of parcel deliveries arrive same day or next day, and that big and bulky lead times have fallen by roughly 45% over 18 months. In August 2026 it launched nationwide express delivery in three hours or less using more than 2,000 stores as fulfilment hubs. None of that is your inventory, but all of it sets the customer expectation your drop-ship orders are judged against. Lead times you set generously to be safe now read as slow.

Orange Apron Media is a real media business now

Home Depot’s retail media network holds annual upfronts, added a self-service Reddit integration inside Orange Access in April 2026, and joined the Pinterest Media Network Connect beta as the first home improvement retailer. Formats include product listing ads with keyword, audience and negative keyword targeting, geotargeted banners, self-serve brand pages and category leaderboards. We build campaigns against your wholesale margin, which is a different calculation from a marketplace seller’s, because your revenue per unit is fixed by your cost.

Our Process

How We Work

01

Readiness & Compliance Review

We assess where you are, approved supplier or prospective, EDI-capable or not, item data ready or not, and give you a written list of what must be true before revenue moves.

02

Data & Asset Remediation

Item attributes, imagery and content rebuilt to Home Depot spec, because rejected data is the most common thing blocking publication.

03

Operational Cadence

Daily OrderStream processing and EDI monitoring, with inventory and lead times kept honest. This is the work that prevents offsets rather than disputing them later.

04

Compliance Recovery

Historic deductions reviewed and disputed inside the SPM window with supporting documentation, and the underlying cause fixed so it does not recur.

05

Growth

With operations clean, we layer in Orange Apron Media campaigns and work with you on assortment expansion through your merchant relationship.

Where Accounts Go Wrong

Four mistakes that damage a Home Depot supplier relationship

Cancelling orders you cannot fulfil

Nothing burns supplier standing faster. The root cause is nearly always a stale inventory feed or a lead time that was optimistic on the day it was set. Both are fixable with a scheduled feed and a quarterly lead time review against actual dispatch data.

Missing the monthly dispute window

Deductions are disputed inside the supplier performance application on a monthly cycle, and compliance reports post after the fiscal month closes. Suppliers who check quarterly find the window shut. We diary the posting date and work the report the week it appears.

Quoting blog chargeback figures back at Home Depot

The current offset schedule is published to suppliers inside Supplier Hub, not publicly. Several widely repeated dollar figures online actually relate to distribution centre freight compliance rather than drop-ship. Argue from your own documents.

Treating item data as a one-time upload

Attribute and imagery requirements change, and defective item data blocks publication and drives offsets. A quarterly catalogue audit against current spec costs less than a single blocked launch during a seasonal window.

FAQ

Common Questions

How do I become a Home Depot supplier?

You submit your product for consideration through Home Depot’s prospective-supplier process. A merchant team reviews it. Home Depot’s own guidance says merchandising submissions get contact within 60 days, and non-merchandising applicants may resubmit after 90 days if they have not heard back. Approval leads to a Supplier Buying Agreement, then a vendor number, then Supplier Hub access. No agency can guarantee this outcome.

What commission does Home Depot charge?

None, because it is not a marketplace. It is a wholesale relationship, Home Depot issues a purchase order at an agreed cost, you invoice against it, and Home Depot sets the retail price. Your economics are decided in the cost negotiation, not by a fee schedule.

What are the chargebacks and how much are they?

Home Depot applies compliance offsets for issues like late or missing ASNs, routing-guide violations and item-data defects, and publishes the current schedule to suppliers inside Supplier Hub. We deliberately do not quote dollar figures on this page. The numbers circulating publicly trace back to a single third-party article and appear to relate to distribution-centre freight compliance rather than drop-ship, quoting them at you would be misleading.

What is SPM?

Supplier Performance Management, the Supplier Hub tool where your compliance metrics are visible and where deductions are disputed. Disputes are submitted in the portal rather than by email, and the window is monthly, miss it and the deduction stands. Exact dates follow Home Depot’s compliance calendar in Supplier Hub.

Do I need EDI?

In practice, yes. The order flow runs on EDI, 850 for the purchase order, a mandatory 997 acknowledgement, 856 for the shipment notice, 810 for your invoice, 820 for remittance and 846 for inventory. You can meet this through an EDI provider rather than building it, but you cannot avoid it.

Does Home Depot have a marketplace I can sell on?

No, and this is the most important thing to get right before you spend money. Home Depot’s own prospective supplier guidance describes a single path: a new product submission reviewed by its merchant team, who make contact within 60 days. There is no seller account, no referral commission and no listing fee, because you are not listing on a marketplace. You become an approved supplier under a buying agreement, or you do not sell. Anyone selling you a Home Depot marketplace listing service is describing Lowe’s, which does run one.

Who sets the retail price on homedepot.com?

Home Depot does. You transmit inventory and cost, not price. Its chargeback vocabulary includes a pricing discrepancy code that triggers when an invoiced amount exceeds what Home Depot expects the product to cost, which tells you clearly where pricing authority sits. Your margin work happens in cost negotiation, freight terms and compliance accuracy rather than in repricing.

Can suppliers advertise on homedepot.com?

Yes, through Orange Apron Media. Its self-service platform, Orange Access, covers product listing ads with keyword and audience targeting, banner placements with geotargeting, self-serve brand pages and category leaderboards, and it added a self-service Reddit integration in April 2026. Home Depot does not disclose retail media revenue, and it does not publish eligibility rules publicly, so we confirm your account’s access before planning spend.

Our Guarantee

What we put in writing

What you always get

  • One named account manager who knows your account, not a rotating pool
  • A written report every month covering what we changed and why
  • Every file, login and asset stays yours, handed over on request

What you never get

  • No lock-in. Cancel any month, with no notice period
  • No setup fee, and the audit before you start is free
  • If we miss the scope we agreed in your first 30 days, that month is free

We do not promise a ranking, a Buy Box share or a sales figure, because those sit with the platform and not with us. We promise the work, the reporting and the terms above, and all three go in the contract.
