Walmart Marketplace

Walmart Account Management for Brands Selling in the US

Walmart account management is the day to day running of your Seller Center account by an outside team. It covers listings, pricing rules, advertising, fulfilment and the performance metrics that decide whether your items stay published. We have run marketplace accounts since 2019 and moved more than $100 million in sales.

Two dates that change your numbers this year

Start here, because both have money attached and both have deadlines.

New Seller Savings runs until 31 January 2027

Walmart opened a fee programme on 2 February 2026. It cuts referral fees on a sliding scale: 20% off your first $50,000 in sales, 30% from $50,000 to $500,000, and 40% above that. Walmart puts the ceiling at $72,000 in referral savings. Add up to $2,000 in fulfilment credits, up to $1,000 in search credits and up to $500 in ad credits, and the programme tops out near $75,000.

Two conditions matter. You must have gone live after 1 February 2026. And you must opt in on the payments page after launch. It is not automatic. Sellers who qualify and never click the button pay full rate all year.

Storage got expensive on 30 June 2026

Walmart Fulfillment Services added long term storage tiers. Inventory sitting 366 to 450 days now costs $2.25 per cubic foot each month. Past 450 days it jumps to $7.50. Normal storage is $0.75 per cubic foot from January to September, with a second $1.50 layered on in the fourth quarter for anything held beyond 30 days.

If you shipped units into a fulfilment centre in 2025 and they have not sold, that stock is now the most expensive thing in your account.

What we do about it

We run an age report against every SKU in the fulfilment network and split it into three groups: sell through with a price cut, pull back with a removal order, or dispose. Then we set restock quantities against actual sell through so the problem does not rebuild. Removal costs the disposal fee plus $0.40 per pound, which is almost always cheaper than a second year of storage.

The metrics Walmart actually measures

This is where most sellers get bad advice, so it is worth being precise.

Walmart does not use Order Defect Rate. That is an Amazon metric. Any agency that lists it on a Walmart page is working from an Amazon template. Walmart measures eight things, each with its own threshold and window.

MetricStandardWindow
Cancellation rateUnder 2%30 days
On time delivery rate90% or better30 days
Valid tracking rate99% or better30 days
Seller response rate95% or better30 days
Late shipment rateUnder 5%rolling
Negative feedback rateUnder 2%60 days
Return rateUnder 6%60 days
Item not received rateUnder 2%60 days

Three of those became enforceable in April 2026: return rate, item not received rate and negative feedback rate. Before that they were reported but not acted on. Sellers who ignored them for years are now exposed.

One trap sits underneath all of this. If an order passes its expected ship date by four days without valid tracking, Walmart cancels it for you. That cancellation then counts against your cancellation rate. A carrier scan delay can quietly damage two metrics at once.

Walmart names four account states: suppression, pause, suspension and termination. It does not publish which number triggers which state. If someone shows you a warning ladder with exact percentages, they made it up.

The Pro Seller Badge, and what it is worth

The badge is the clearest scoreboard Walmart gives you, because every criterion is published.

RequirementThreshold
On time delivery rate95% or better
Cancellation rate1.5% or lower
Seller response rate95% or better
Shipping speed score50% or better
Content quality score75% or better
Price competitiveness score75% or better

Status refreshes on the 5th and 20th of each month, and you lose it after two consecutive cycles below the line. The reason to care is financial: qualifying listings get a 10% referral fee discount, plus flash deal access, faster payouts and a monthly search credit.

What selling on Walmart costs

Referral fees run from 3% to 20% by category. Most sit at 15%. Jewellery is the highest at 20% on the first $250. Personal computers are 6%. Consumer electronics, cameras and major appliances are 8%. Several categories are price tiered, so the rate drops above a breakpoint.

There is no monthly fee and no setup fee. There is also no minimum referral fee, which is a real difference from Amazon and matters on low priced items.

Fulfilment through Walmart starts at $3.45 for items up to a pound, $4.95 at two pounds and $5.45 at three. Surcharges apply for apparel, hazardous goods and items priced under $10. Big and bulky items are priced at $155 plus $0.80 per pound over 90 pounds.

The pricing rule that can take your listing down

Walmart runs three separate pricing mechanisms, and sellers regularly confuse them.

The Pricing Rule unpublishes an offer priced far above what the same item sells for on Walmart.com or on competing sites. The listing disappears. Buy Box ineligibility is softer: the item stays published but the Add to Cart button is removed. A third rule targets shipping costs that Walmart judges excessive.

Walmart evaluates price and shipping together, so a low item price with inflated shipping still trips the rule. It publishes no percentage threshold anywhere. The words it uses are "egregiously" and "substantially". Anyone quoting you a specific trigger is guessing.

Something worth knowing about the Buy Box

Walmart selects the Buy Box winner based on the customer's location. You can hold it in one region and lose it in another for the same item on the same day. Reporting that treats Buy Box ownership as a single yes or no number is hiding where you are actually losing sales.

Delivery speed moves items more than anything else

Walmart runs two seller fulfilled speed programmes, OneDay and TwoDay. Entry needs on time delivery above 90%, valid tracking above 95%, cancellation under 1.5%, and either 90 days of account age or 20 qualifying orders.

Walmart is unusually direct about the payoff. It states that these listings get better search visibility, a stronger Buy Box position, a fast shipping badge and preference during sales events. It also publishes an average lift of more than 20% in sales against non expedited offers.

Two setup details decide whether it works. Expedited offers need zero lag time, and TwoDay offers cannot charge the customer for shipping.

Advertising, and what you can actually buy

Walmart's retail media arm is called Walmart Connect. The self serve products open to marketplace sellers sit under Sponsored Search: Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Videos. Sponsored Products runs on cost per click in a second price auction.

Three eligibility rules catch sellers out. An item can only be advertised if it is in stock, published and winning the Buy Box. Lose the Buy Box and your ads stop serving on that item, which is why ad performance often collapses for reasons that have nothing to do with the campaign.

Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Videos add more conditions. You need to be the brand owner, be registered with the US patent office, and be onboarded to Walmart Brand Portal. Onsite Display is limited to brand owners and authorised resellers as well.

One claim to be careful with

Walmart DSP is real, but it is an enterprise and agency product for offsite media. You cannot buy it from Seller Center. If an agency pitches you Walmart DSP as part of a marketplace retainer, ask them to show you where it appears in your account. Walmart also publishes no minimum budget or minimum bid for Sponsored Products. The only published spend figure anywhere in its seller documentation is a $4,500 monthly recommendation for Onsite Display, and it is a recommendation rather than a floor.

Success Hub, not the growth dashboard

Seller Center has a Growth tab, and inside it sits a free tool called Success Hub. It flags items with room to improve on price, inventory and assortment, predicts demand on a 14 day window, and refreshes suggestions twice a week. It also keeps a history of past recommendations so you can see what was actioned.

There is no product called the Growth Opportunities dashboard. That phrase comes from a guide category on Walmart's learning site, and it has spread through agency writing as if it were a screen you can open. Small thing, but it tells you whether the person advising you has logged into a real account.

Walmart shipped a new Reports Dashboard in Seller Center in August 2026, pulling sales, catalogue, pricing, orders and fulfilment reporting into one place. It also released a Listing Quality API and a Content Quality API the same month, which means listing scores can now be pulled and tracked outside Seller Center.

What this has produced

Four accounts we can point at, each with the detail on its own page.

Across every account since 2019 we have handled more than $100 million in marketplace sales, and our profiles across freelancing platforms carry more than 300 reviews at a 5.0 average. Four cases you can read in full beat a number on a banner.

How we run an account

Weeks one and two

A full audit before anything changes. Listing quality scores item by item, every performance metric against its threshold, aged fulfilment inventory, pricing rule exposure, unpublished items, and campaign waste. You keep the findings whether or not you continue with us.

Month one

Fix what is costing money now. Unpublished listings, lost Buy Box, out of stock top sellers, aged stock, and any metric close to its threshold. We check New Seller Savings eligibility in week one, because the opt in is easy to miss and the window closes in January.

Ongoing

Weekly search term review, bid and budget changes, restock planning, listing quality work and a monthly report that shows total advertising cost of sales, organic share and Buy Box ownership by region. You get a named person, not a ticket queue.

When you should not hire us

  • You are under roughly $20,000 a month on Walmart. A retainer takes too much of the margin. Buy a one off audit and act on it.
  • You have not launched yet. Get approved and get items live first. There is nothing to manage until orders flow.
  • Your listings are unpublished on price and your cost base is the reason. No management fixes economics that do not work. We will say so at the audit rather than take the retainer.
  • You want a guaranteed Buy Box share. Nobody can promise that honestly, and the geographic scoring makes a single number meaningless anyway.

What this costs

Full management starts at $1,200 per month for a single marketplace, with a 90 day initial term and 30 days notice after that. Larger catalogues are quoted after the audit, because the driver is item count and case volume rather than revenue. The audit is free and yours to keep.

Common questions

What is Walmart account management?

It is the ongoing operation of your Walmart Seller Center account by an external team, covering listing quality, pricing rules, advertising, fulfilment and the performance metrics that keep items published. It differs from a one off project because Walmart changes requirements several times a year.

What are Walmart referral fees?

They run from 3% to 20% depending on category, with most categories at 15%. Several are price tiered. There is no monthly fee, no setup fee and no minimum referral fee per item.

Can I still get the New Seller Savings discount?

Yes, if you went live after 1 February 2026. The programme runs to 31 January 2027 and gives 20% to 40% off referral fees on a sliding scale. You have to opt in on the payments page. It does not apply automatically.

What is a good Listing Quality Score?

Walmart publishes no target for the overall score. It scores five components: content quality, price competitiveness, shipping, published and in stock, and ratings and reviews. The only official numbers are the Pro Seller gates of 75% content quality, 75% price competitiveness and 50% shipping speed.

Why did Walmart unpublish my listing?

Most often the Pricing Rule. Walmart unpublishes offers priced far above the same item elsewhere, and it judges price and shipping together. It publishes no percentage threshold. Check your shipping template as well as your item price.

How many sellers are on Walmart Marketplace?

Walmart does not publish a seller count. Figures circulating online are third party estimates. What Walmart does report is growth: US marketplace net sales grew more than 50% in the quarter ending July 2026, with nearly half the business flowing through its fulfilment services.

Do I need Walmart Fulfillment Services?

No, but seller fulfilled accounts carry the delivery, cancellation and tracking metrics themselves. Fulfillment Services shifts that risk to Walmart and adds the Walmart Fulfilled tag. Weigh it against the new long term storage rates before committing slow moving stock.

Is Item 360 the tool I use?

No. Item 360 belongs to Walmart's first party supplier systems. Marketplace sellers work in Seller Center. Agencies that mention Item 360 on a marketplace page are describing a different business relationship.

Our Guarantee

What we put in writing

What you always get

  • One named account manager who knows your account, not a rotating pool
  • A written report every month covering what we changed and why
  • Every file, login and asset stays yours, handed over on request

What you never get

  • No lock-in. Cancel any month, with no notice period
  • No setup fee, and the audit before you start is free
  • If we miss the scope we agreed in your first 30 days, that month is free

We do not promise a ranking, a Buy Box share or a sales figure, because those sit with the platform and not with us. We promise the work, the reporting and the terms above, and all three go in the contract.
