Amazon A+ Content Writing Services: A Module by Module Copy Guide

A+ Content converts when every module does one job. The header carries the promise. Single image with highlights answers the objection. The comparison chart settles the choice. Technical specifications satisfy the researcher. Brand Story earns the second purchase. Most Amazon A+ content writing services sell layout, and layout is the easy half. The copy inside the layout decides whether a shopper adds to cart, so write to each module’s character limit and swap every banned phrase for a compliant one before you submit.

Design is not the bottleneck

Look at ten A+ pages in any category. Nine are clean, on brand, and say nothing a shopper could act on. The photography is good. The copy is adjectives with a font applied.

Amazon’s own A+ Content design guide, published 24 September 2025, spends most of its advice on visual craft. That advice is sound. It leaves the harder question alone: what should the words argue?

Modules are containers for an argument. The container has a shape and a size limit. If you fill it with mood, you have paid a designer to format a blank.

The five module argument

Order carries meaning. A shopper who scrolls into your A+ has already read the title and the bullets, and has one live question: is this the right one for me. Answer it in this sequence.

  1. Header with text. The promise. One sentence a shopper could repeat to a friend.
  2. Single image with highlights. The objection. Whatever makes people hesitate, handled in three short blocks.
  3. Comparison chart. The decision. Which one in your range, and why that one.
  4. Technical specifications. The researcher. Numbers, fit, materials, contents.
  5. Brand Story. The repeat purchase. Who made this and what else they make.

Lead with the comparison chart and you break the argument. You introduce alternatives before the shopper wants the product at all. A chart shown too early reads as a menu, and a shopper with a menu leaves to compare brands.

The character budgets below are what we observe inside A+ Content Manager, not figures Amazon publishes in a spec sheet. Amazon changes them without announcement, so check the field counter before you write. Module sizes, image dimensions and submission rules sit on our A+ Content specifications page.

Writing to the character budget

The limit shapes the sentence. Treat each budget as a brief rather than a ceiling.

Header with text. The 6,000 character body is a trap. Nobody reads a wall of text under a hero image. Write 300 to 450 characters, three sentences at most, then use the 150 character headline to state the promise in plain words. A headline that survives is specific: “Holds a full week of dry food without a lid clip” beats “Premium storage solution”.

Image and text overlay. Three hundred characters is one idea. Pick the use case the photo already shows and write the caption the photo cannot say.

Single image with highlights. The 1,000 character intro plus two 400 character blocks maps neatly onto one objection each. Common set: does it fit, how do I clean it, how long does it last.

Standard text. Five thousand characters with no image invites rambling. Use it for the copy nobody wants pretty: measurements, care steps, what fits what.

Three images with text. Parallel grammar does the work. If block one opens with a verb, blocks two and three open with verbs.

The comparison chart is the most under used module

Six product columns, ten metric rows, and product titles capped at 80 characters. That ceiling is confirmed in the A+ Content API schema, so it holds across categories.

Most sellers compare their own catalogue, which Amazon allows. The mistake sits in the rows. Sellers fill them with whatever data is easy to reach: colour, weight, SKU. Those rows describe. They do not persuade.

Choose rows where two things are true at once. You win on the attribute, and the buyer cares about it. A row that reads Yes across all six columns teaches nothing.

Attribute typeUse itAvoid itWhy
Fit or capacityWhen sizes differ across the rangeWhen one size covers everythingSizing drives most returns
CompatibilityWhen models suit different devicesWhen every cell says YesAn identical row wastes a slot
Care and cleaningWhen one model is dishwasher safeWhen all are hand washCleaning is a live objection

What you cannot write, and what to write instead

Amazon rejects A+ submissions for language, not layout. The prohibited list covers pricing, promotions and discounts; time sensitive words including now, new, latest, yet and on sale now; guarantee and warranty information; competitor comparisons; contact details, QR codes, hyperlinks and shipping information; superlatives such as best selling and top rated; awards older than two years; customer reviews; and health or environmental claims such as eco friendly and biodegradable.

Quotes are allowed within limits. Amazon permits up to four, only from well known publications or public figures, and each one needs attribution.

Treat that list as a writing constraint. Every banned phrase has a compliant version that carries the same intent.

Two habits keep a submission clean. Write the copy first, then run a find for the banned words as a separate pass. And describe the attribute rather than the reaction. Attributes clear review.

Alt text is the only part Amazon confirmed feeds search

Here is the confirmed fact. Amazon staff have stated on Seller Forums that alt text submitted with A+ modules gets used in search results. Body copy has never been confirmed as indexed by Amazon search.

That asymmetry should change how you brief a writer. Body copy is a conversion instrument. Alt text is the ranking instrument, and most teams leave it blank or paste a file name.

Write alt text as description plus keyword, inside 100 characters. Describe what the image shows, then let one relevant term ride along. “Stainless steel garlic press with soft grip handle in a home kitchen” reads as a description and carries the term. “Best garlic press buy now” fails both jobs and risks the superlative rule.

Google is a separate question. A+ text renders inside the product page, so Google can read it. Neither company publishes what that contributes to a ranking. Our Amazon SEO guide covers the fields Amazon does confirm as search inputs.

Brand Story copy

Brand Story sits above A+ on every ASIN that carries it. You get four sub modules, and the Q and A pairs share a 600 character ceiling across up to three questions. That cap forces you to answer in two sentences.

Nobody arrived searching for your brand. They searched for the product. So the Brand Story has one job: give a reason to buy from this maker again. Concrete beats poetic. What you make, why this range exists, what the next purchase would be.

Write the pairs as questions a shopper actually types. What sizes do you make. How do I replace the filter. Where is this made. Skip the question only a founder finds interesting.

Writing for the quality score

Amazon runs Content Quality Analysis on published A+ and scores it weekly across readability, information completeness, visual presentation, and conversion effectiveness. Two of those four dimensions are writing problems.

Amazon has not published the rubric, so what follows is inference from watching scores move, not a documented rule.

Readability appears to reward short sentences, real headings, and text that sits outside images. A checker cannot read copy baked into a graphic, and neither can a screen reader. Information completeness appears to reward coverage: dimensions, materials, contents, care, compatibility. Pages that skip sizing tend to score lower.

Conversion effectiveness moves with behaviour, so it lags edits. Give a rewrite three or four weeks before you judge it.

Three examples pulled apart

The three pages below are constructed, with invented brand names in real categories. We built them so the copy decisions are visible. They are not live listings.

Strong. Norvell Cast Iron, 10 inch skillet. The header headline reads “Pre seasoned, so the first egg does not stick”. That is a promise with a test attached. The highlights module handles three real doubts: oven safe temperature, how to re season, and handle heat. The comparison chart rows are skillet diameter, weight, handle length, and lid included. Every row changes across the range. Brand Story answers where the iron is cast.

Average. Palewick Sleep, weighted blanket. Strong photography, generic copy. The header says “Sleep better with Palewick”, which a shopper cannot verify and which edges into a health claim. The chart compares colours, and colour never decides this purchase. Missing: the weight to body weight guidance every buyer searches for.

Poor. Bramfield Home, desk lamp. Original header: “Our best selling new lamp, on sale now, with a lifetime guarantee. Rated number one by customers.” Four separate violations in two sentences: superlative, time sensitive language, guarantee, and a review claim.

The rewrite: “Three brightness levels and a warm to cool dial, on an arm that holds position.” The highlights module then takes clamp thickness, cable length, and bulb type. Same lamp, no policy risk, and a shopper can now tell whether it fits their desk.

What an A+ copywriting engagement includes

Scope, stated plainly. Research inputs first: your reviews, your support tickets, competitor A+ read for gaps, and the search terms already converting. Then a module plan naming which module carries which job. Then the copy itself, written inside each character budget.

Alt text comes with the copy, one line per image slot. So does an image brief describing what each frame must show and where text sits, which our Amazon graphics and design team works from. A compliance pass runs against the prohibited list before submission. One revision round is included.

Not included: design production, photography, A/B testing through Manage Your Experiments, and ongoing listing maintenance unless you add Amazon account management.

How we work: one named account manager, a written report every month, and every file and login stays yours. No lock in, no setup fee, and a free audit before we start. Miss the scope we agreed in the first 30 days and that month costs you nothing. We do not promise a ranking, a Buy Box share or a sales figure, because nobody can.

A+ copywriting is quoted per scope, priced on the number of ASINs and on whether image briefs and alt text are bundled in. You get the figure in writing before any work starts.

Frequently asked questions

Does A+ Content copy get indexed by Amazon search?

Amazon has never confirmed that A+ body copy feeds its search index. Amazon staff confirmed the opposite for alt text on Seller Forums, stating that alt text submitted with A+ modules is used in search results. Treat body copy as a conversion tool and alt text as your search field.

Is A+ Content text crawlable by Google?

A+ text renders inside the product detail page, so Google can read it. Neither company publishes how much that text contributes to a Google ranking. Write for the shopper on the page first. Any external search gain is a side effect you cannot measure.

How many characters can each A+ module hold?

The limits differ by module. Header with text allows a 150 character headline and up to 6,000 body characters. Image and text overlay allows 300. Standard text allows 160 and 5,000. These are the values shown in A+ Content Manager, not published specifications, so check the live field counter.

Can I mention price or a discount in A+ Content?

No. Amazon prohibits pricing, promotional details and discounts inside A+ modules. That covers dollar figures, percentages off, coupon references and phrases such as on sale. Write the value instead: what is in the box, how many uses a pack covers, or which bundle suits which shopper.

Can I say best selling or number one rated?

No. Superlatives such as best selling and top rated are prohibited, as are references to customer reviews and star ratings. Replace the claim with the attribute behind it. Instead of best selling blender, describe the motor, the jug capacity, or the daily use the product was designed around.

Can I compare my product to a competitor in A+ Content?

You cannot compare against another brand. You can compare products within your own catalogue, which is what the comparison chart module exists for. Six columns and ten rows cover a full range. Choose rows where the answers genuinely differ, since identical rows persuade nobody.

Why does Amazon keep rejecting my A+ Content?

Language causes most rejections, not design. The frequent triggers are pricing, time sensitive words such as now and new, guarantee or warranty wording, contact details, hyperlinks, QR codes, shipping information, superlatives, review quotes, and health or environmental claims. Run a find for those terms before every submission.

What should go in A+ Content alt text?

Description plus one relevant keyword, inside 100 characters. Describe what the image shows, then include the term a shopper would type. The same policy rules apply, so no superlatives and no promotional wording. Fill every image slot rather than leaving defaults.

How long should A+ Content copy be?

Shorter than the field allows. A header body can hold 6,000 characters and should use roughly 400. Highlights blocks work at 300 to 400 each. Standard text earns its length only for sizing, care and compatibility detail. Past that point, length costs you readability.

Can I use AI to write A+ Content?

Amazon does not prohibit AI drafting and offers its own listing generation tools. The risk is policy, not authorship. Generated copy reaches for superlatives, time sensitive words and review language, which is exactly what review rejects. Use AI for a first pass, then edit against the prohibited list.

What is the Brand Story character limit?

Brand Story allows four sub modules. The Q and A answers share a 600 character ceiling across up to three pairs, as observed in A+ Content Manager. That budget covers all pairs combined, not each one, so two tight sentences per answer is the working shape.

How much does A+ Content copywriting cost?

Pricing depends on how many ASINs share a template, whether Brand Story is included, and how much research the category needs. A single ASIN with one module plan costs less than a range of eight variants. Ask for a scoped quote and a free audit first.

Get the copy plan before the design brief

If your A+ looks good and converts badly, the words are the place to start. Send the ASINs and we will read the current copy against the policy list and the module jobs, free, before anything is quoted. Hand the plan to your own designer, or fold it into Amazon account management.
