Ecommerce Graphic Design
Built to Marketplace Spec

Every marketplace has different image rules, and most of them reject or bury listings quietly rather than telling you why. We design to each platform’s published spec, then to what actually converts on it.

Ecommerce graphic design is not brand design with a shopping cart attached. A main image that wins on Amazon breaks the rules on Target. A photo that converts on Wayfair would be rejected as a primary image on Etsy. We build listing images, A+ content, storefronts and ad creative against the written requirements of each channel, then against how buyers on that channel actually decide.

What We Offer

What We Design

Listing Image Sets

Main images, angles, scale shots, in use shots and detail crops, built per platform. Amazon wants a pure white background with the product filling most of the frame. Etsy wants a single uncluttered photo of the finished item, never a collage. Wayfair asks for silhouette, environmental, functional and dimensional shots. Same product, different sets.

Infographics That Answer Objections

The second and third images do the selling. We build them from your actual review objections and returns reasons rather than from a template, so each panel removes a specific reason someone would not buy.

A+ and Enhanced Brand Content

Amazon A+ modules, Walmart Rich Media and equivalent enhanced content elsewhere, designed to be read at phone width first, because that is where most of it is seen.

Storefronts and Brand Pages

Amazon Stores, Etsy shop banners, Home Depot brand pages through Orange Access and Wayfair brand presence. Navigation and category logic matter as much as the artwork.

Video and Motion

Short product video for listings, plus vertical creative for TikTok Shop where video is the entire discovery mechanism rather than a supporting asset.

Brand Identity and Packaging

Logo, palette, type system and packaging that survives being printed small on a mailer and photographed under warehouse lighting. Several marketplaces also restrict what can go in the box, so packaging and compliance get designed together.

Why Platform Spec Matters

Five rules people design straight past

Amazon main images are a technical spec, not a style choice

The primary image needs a pure white background, the product filling the majority of the frame, no text, no logos, no props and no borders. Files should be large enough to support zoom, which in practice means the longest side at 1600 pixels or more. Sellers who hand Amazon a lifestyle shot as image one lose the zoom function and the search thumbnail clarity in the same move.

Etsy rejects collages from the primary slot

Etsy’s own priority placement checklist asks for a primary photo that is a single image of a finished product, clear and well lit, with a recommended width and height of 2000 pixels or more. Stitched together images and feature callouts belong from slot two onward. This is one of the few places where a design decision is documented as a ranking input.

Wayfair treats imagery as returns prevention

Wayfair states that merchandising issues are a common cause of returns and asks for at least three images per product at 1000 by 1000 pixels or larger, with 2000 by 2000 preferred. It names the shot types it wants: single product silhouette, zoomed in environmental, zoomed out environmental, functional and dimensional. On a channel where return rate feeds deductions and Wayfair Verified eligibility, photography is a margin decision.

Target will not take your Amazon stack

Target’s creative standard is editorial and lifestyle led. Primary images are square, RGB, on a white background, but the wider set is expected to look like Target rather than like a catalogue. Porting an Amazon image stack across unchanged is one of the most common reasons a Target Plus range looks out of place next to owned brands.

TikTok Shop is video first, and the rules are content rules

On TikTok the creative is the demand. It is also policed. Statements suggesting weight loss, fat reduction or muscle gain are banned in words, images and voiceover, and before and after body comparison imagery tied to a promoted product is prohibited. A design decision can become an account health deduction.

Why Creative Is A Ranking Input

The specs marketplaces actually publish

Most creative briefs are written from taste. These numbers come from the platforms themselves, and they are the difference between a listing that qualifies for placement and one that quietly does not.

2000pxEtsy primary photo recommendationEtsy recommends a width and height of 2000 pixels or more, and requires a single uncollaged image of the finished product for priority placement.
1600pxAmazon zoom thresholdA longest side of 1600 pixels or more is what enables the zoom function on a product detail page.
3+Wayfair images per productMinimum three at 1000 by 1000 pixels or larger, with 2000 by 2000 preferred, across five named shot types.
47%Of Etsy GMS on mobile appEtsy app GMS grew 12.5% year on year in Q2 2026. Design for a thumbnail first and a desktop grid second.

What You Get

What a design engagement includes

We work either as a one off build or as ongoing creative support alongside account management. Either way the process is the same, because the quality comes from the inputs rather than the software:

  • A creative audit of your current listings against each platform’s published image requirements
  • Objection mapping from your reviews, returns reasons and customer messages, so infographics answer real doubts
  • Main image rebuilds to spec per channel, with the correct background, framing and resolution for each
  • Secondary image sets covering scale, use, detail and dimensions
  • A+ or enhanced content modules designed mobile first
  • Storefront or brand page layout, including category structure and navigation copy
  • Source files handed over in editable format, so you are never locked to us
  • A short written rationale per listing, explaining what each image is doing and why

A good fit if

  • You sell on more than one marketplace and the creative does not travel well
  • Your listings get traffic but conversion is below category norms
  • Your return rate is driven by expectation gaps rather than product faults
  • You are launching on a new channel and need a compliant set from day one
  • You want editable source files rather than flattened exports

Probably not a fit if

  • You want a logo only, with no ecommerce application
  • You need print advertising or brand campaigns rather than listing creative
  • You want stock imagery repackaged, we work from your product
  • You need photography of a product that does not physically exist yet
  • You expect design alone to fix a pricing or fulfilment problem

How We Decide What To Design

Four things that make listing creative work

The second image earns more than the first

The main image gets the click. Everything after it decides the purchase. We build the secondary set from your own returns reasons and one and two star reviews, because those are a written list of the objections your current images fail to answer. A buyer who returns an item because it was smaller than expected did not misread the dimensions, they were never shown a scale reference. That is a design problem with a design fix, and on channels like Wayfair, where returns feed deductions and programme eligibility, it is also a margin fix.

Design for the thumbnail, then the page

Almost half of Etsy’s gross merchandise sales now come through the mobile app, and app volume grew 12.5% year on year in the second quarter of 2026. The same shift has happened everywhere. That changes composition, not just export size. A product shot that reads beautifully at full width can be an unidentifiable shape at 120 pixels in a search grid. We check every main image at thumbnail size before anything else, and reject compositions that fail there regardless of how good the full size version looks.

Compliance is part of the brief, not a review step

Several of the most expensive creative mistakes are policy breaches rather than aesthetic ones. Target does not allow marketing inserts in the box. TikTok Shop bans before and after body imagery tied to a promoted product and, from July 2026, prohibits GLP terms in titles and branding. Amazon rejects main images with text or borders. We keep the current rule set for each channel in the brief itself, so the constraint shapes the design instead of arriving as a rejection two weeks later.

One product, several visual languages

A single SKU may need a white background stack for Amazon, an editorial lifestyle set for Target, a dimensional and functional set for Wayfair, a single clean finished product photo for Etsy and vertical video for TikTok Shop. Sellers try to solve this with one shoot and one export, then wonder why the listing underperforms on three of the five. We plan the shoot around the union of the requirements, capture once, and build each channel set from the same session. It costs slightly more up front and considerably less over a year.

Our Process

How We Work

01

Creative Audit

We review your live listings against the published requirements for each channel you sell on, and against category leaders, then hand you a written list of what is failing and what it is likely costing.

02

Objection Mapping

We read your reviews, returns reasons and customer messages, and turn the recurring doubts into a shot list. This is the step most design work skips.

03

Build

Main images, secondary sets, infographics, A+ modules and storefront layouts produced to spec per channel, with a first round delivered for review rather than a finished set delivered for approval.

04

Deploy and Measure

Assets uploaded, then conversion and return rate watched against the previous set. Design that cannot be measured is decoration.

05

Iterate

Refreshes driven by what the data shows, and by policy changes on each platform, which arrive more often than most sellers expect.

Where Accounts Go Wrong

Four design mistakes that cost sales

Putting text on the Amazon main image

It breaches the requirement and it makes the thumbnail harder to read at grid size. Badges, offers and feature callouts belong on secondary images where they are allowed and where they still get seen.

Reusing one image set everywhere

A set built for Amazon will underperform on Target, breach the primary photo rule on Etsy and miss the shot types Wayfair names. Capturing once and building per channel costs a fraction of the traffic it recovers.

Designing without reading the reviews

Infographics built from feature lists answer questions nobody asked. Infographics built from one and two star reviews answer the exact objection that is currently costing you the sale.

Ignoring how the product photographs at scale

If the product is small, the single most valuable image is one showing it next to something familiar. Size surprise is one of the most common returns reasons across every marketplace, and it is nearly always preventable.

FAQ

Common Questions

How many images should each listing have?

It depends on the channel, and the floors are published. Wayfair asks for a minimum of three per product at 1000 by 1000 pixels or larger, with 2000 by 2000 preferred. Etsy requires at least one and recommends 2000 pixels or more on each side for priority placement. Amazon allows more than most sellers use. In practice we build six to nine per listing: main, two angles, a scale reference, an in use shot, a detail crop and two objection led infographics.

Can you reuse my Amazon images on other marketplaces?

Partly, and rarely for the main image. Copy and specifications usually transfer. The primary image often does not, because the rules differ. Amazon wants pure white with no text. Etsy will not prioritise a collage. Target leans editorial and lifestyle. We audit what can be reused and rebuild only what has to change, which is cheaper than reshooting and safer than porting everything unchanged.

Do you do the photography as well?

We art direct and retouch, and we work with your photographer or ours depending on where you are and what the product is. What we always do is write the shot list before anyone picks up a camera, planned around the union of every channel’s requirements, so one session covers all of them.

What file formats do I get?

Editable source files plus per channel exports at the correct dimensions and colour space. You keep the sources. We have taken over enough accounts from agencies that handed over flattened JPEGs only to think that practice is worth naming.

How do you measure whether the design worked?

Conversion rate and return rate against the previous set, on the same listings, over a comparable period. Where the platform supports it we also watch click through from search. If a rebuild does not move either number we say so rather than presenting a mood board.

Can bad images actually get a listing suppressed?

Yes, on several channels. Amazon rejects main images with text, logos, props or borders. Etsy’s priority placement checklist requires a single clear image of the finished product, so a collage costs placement. TikTok Shop bans before and after body comparison imagery tied to a promoted product, and that is an account health penalty rather than a listing one. Design sits inside the compliance surface on every marketplace we work on.

Do you design A+ content and storefronts too?

Yes. Amazon A+ modules, Walmart Rich Media, Amazon Stores, Etsy shop banners and brand pages on channels that offer them. We design A+ for phone width first, because that is where most of it is read, and we treat storefront navigation as an information architecture problem rather than a layout one.

How long does a listing rebuild take?

A single listing set is usually a week from brief to delivery, assuming product or photography is available. A catalogue of twenty to forty listings runs three to five weeks, staged so you can see results on the first batch before we build the rest. We stage deliberately, because releasing everything at once removes your ability to tell what worked.

Our Guarantee

What we put in writing

What you always get

  • One named account manager who knows your account, not a rotating pool
  • A written report every month covering what we changed and why
  • Every file, login and asset stays yours, handed over on request

What you never get

  • No lock-in. Cancel any month, with no notice period
  • No setup fee, and the audit before you start is free
  • If we miss the scope we agreed in your first 30 days, that month is free

We do not promise a ranking, a Buy Box share or a sales figure, because those sit with the platform and not with us. We promise the work, the reporting and the terms above, and all three go in the contract.
