Amazon Account Manager: What You Actually Get, and What It Costs

Three different services share one name. Amazon’s own Strategic Account Services is a paid programme for larger sellers, and on 28 August 2026 Amazon’s paid services page said it is at full capacity and unable to accept new enrollments. An agency Amazon account manager is a hired operator who runs the account for you. A virtual assistant is a junior hire you direct yourself. Amazon publishes no price for its own programme. The qualification bar is $500,000 in sales.

Three different things share one name

Most sellers who search for a dedicated contact at Amazon mean the first of these three. They want a named person inside Amazon who answers when a listing dies or a case stalls. That person exists, but the door is shut.

The second option is an agency. You hire an outside team, and one person there owns your account. They do the work, not just the advice.

The third is a virtual assistant or an in house employee. You pay a salary or an hourly rate and you supervise the output yourself.

These three cost different amounts, require different things from you, and solve different problems. Mixing them up is the reason this search exists.

What Amazon’s Strategic Account Services actually is

Strategic Account Services, or SAS, is Amazon’s paid consulting programme for sellers in the US store. Amazon assigns a named contact who advises on listings, brand registration and event planning.

We checked Amazon’s paid services page on 28 August 2026. It says: “We are currently at full capacity and unable to accept new enrollments. However, if you are interested in staying in touch, you can join our interest list.”

That single sentence changes the whole decision. No agency page on this search result acknowledges it. If you qualify and you want SAS, the only step open to you today is the interest list.

Amazon describes three parts to the service. Operational guidance covers tactical advice on listings, brand registration and high traffic shopping events. Strategic planning covers a business plan and guidance on Amazon’s tools. Subject matter expertise gives you access to specialists who help you manage issues and avoid interruptions.

Read that list again. It is advice. Amazon does not say its representative will build your listings, run your ads or file your cases.

What Strategic Account Services costs

Amazon publishes no price. The page states that costs are customised to the needs of each seller, and it gives no range, no floor and no fee structure.

Sellers have posted figures in Amazon’s own Seller Forums. Treat these as claims by individual sellers, not as a rate card. We did not capture posting dates, so none of them should be read as a current quote.

The spread tells you something useful. A programme quoted between $700 and $5,000 a month is priced against account size, not against a fixed scope of work.

What sellers say about it

The public record is mixed, and both halves are worth reading.

On the negative side, one seller running an eight figure business reported that Amazon assigned a representative with one month of experience. Others in the same threads called the programme overpriced for what arrived each month.

On the positive side, at least one seller found the reports genuinely useful for improving listings. That is a real outcome, and it fits what Amazon promises.

Here is the reframe that matters more than either verdict. SAS works better as an escalation route than as growth consulting. The value is not the strategy deck. The value is having a named person inside Amazon who can push a stuck case past the support queue.

If you already know what to do and cannot get Amazon to act, an internal contact is worth money. If you know what Amazon will not do and need someone to do it, an internal contact is the wrong purchase.

Leaving SAS, and where the record stops

Amazon states a three month minimum commitment. That is the only term the page publishes.

Beyond that, the record stops. A seller asked in Amazon’s Seller Forums about the formal cancellation process and received no answer. Amazon does not publish a cancellation page, a notice period, or a form for ending the service.

So the honest position is this. You know the minimum term. You do not know the exit path, and neither does anyone writing about it. Ask your representative to put the cancellation process in writing before you sign, and keep that email.

How an Amazon account manager at an agency works differently

Three differences matter. Everything else is a feature list.

First, an agency works across many accounts. It sees a suppression pattern on twenty catalogues before it reaches yours. Amazon’s representative sees your account and Amazon’s playbook.

Second, an agency executes. It writes the copy, builds the campaigns, files the cases and rebuilds the flat files. Amazon’s programme advises and hands the work back to you.

Third, incentives differ. Amazon earns more when your advertising spend rises. An outside team paid a fixed fee does not. That gap shows up in what each one recommends about bidding.

Now the honest disadvantage. An agency has no internal escalation access at Amazon. We file the same cases through the same channels you do. Anyone promising a back door inside Amazon is describing something they do not have.

What it costs to hire us

We publish scope and terms rather than a vague “contact us” page.

Scope and terms are written down before you commit. Pricing is quoted per account after a free audit, because a single ASIN brand and a 400 SKU catalogue are not the same job. You get the figure and the minimum term in writing, not after a sales call.

Scope covers listing and catalogue work, advertising management, case handling and account health monitoring, with a written report every month. It does not cover supplier negotiation, product sourcing, warehousing or trademark filing. For advertising specifically, our Amazon PPC management costs page breaks the pricing model down further.

The terms are fixed. You get one named account manager. Every file and login stays yours. There is no lock in and no setup fee, and the audit before we start is free. If we miss the agreed scope in your first 30 days, that month is free.

What we do not promise: a ranking, a Buy Box share, or a sales figure. Nobody can promise those, and a page that does is selling you a guess. We have worked with marketplace sellers since 2019, managed $100M+ in sales across 100+ projects, and hold 300+ reviews at a 5.0 average on freelancing platforms. One published result: ACOS cut from 35 percent to 10 percent in six months.

The third route, a virtual assistant or an in house hire

A virtual assistant makes sense when the work is repetitive and you can describe it precisely. Inventory uploads, keyword harvesting, negative reviews, order reconciliation, competitor tracking. All of that is teachable.

It stops making sense when the work needs judgement. Deciding which ASIN to kill, or how to answer a policy warning, is not a task you delegate to someone learning the platform.

Price the supervision honestly. An hourly rate is not the loaded cost. Add your own hours spent training, checking and correcting. A cheap hire you supervise for six hours a week is not cheap. Our guide to hiring a virtual assistant covers the screening process and the tasks that transfer well.

How to choose

Start with one question. Is your problem execution or escalation?

If work is not getting done, you need hands. If work is getting done and Amazon will not act, you need a route inside Amazon. Those are different purchases, and most sellers buy the wrong one.

Under $500,000 in sales, growingAgency or VAYou do not qualify for SAS. The threshold rules it out.

Account health is the real worryAccount Health Assurance firstIt is free, and it addresses the actual fear.

Account Health Assurance matters more than a dedicated contact

Most sellers hunting for a dedicated contact are really afraid of one thing. They fear waking up to a deactivated account with no way to reach a human.

Amazon has a free programme for exactly that. Account Health Assurance commits Amazon to not deactivating your account, provided Amazon can reach you within 72 hours and you work to resolve the issue.

The criteria are specific. You need an Account Health Rating of 250 or higher for at least six months, with no more than 10 days below 250 in that window. You need a Professional selling subscription. You need a valid emergency contact number on file.

There is no charge. Check your emergency contact number in Seller Central today, because a stale number is the one thing that quietly disqualifies you.

Frequently asked questions

Does Amazon give sellers a dedicated account manager?

Only through Strategic Account Services, its paid programme for US sellers past $500,000 in sales. Amazon’s paid services page said on 28 August 2026 that the programme is at full capacity and unable to accept new enrollments, with an interest list open. Outside that programme, Amazon does not assign named contacts to sellers.

What is Amazon Strategic Account Services?

It is Amazon’s paid consulting service for larger US sellers. Amazon says it provides operational guidance on listings and brand registration, strategic planning including a business plan, and access to subject matter specialists who help you manage issues. It advises rather than executes. Amazon does not build your listings or run your advertising under it.

Is Strategic Account Services still available?

Not to new sellers. On 28 August 2026, Amazon’s paid services page stated: “We are currently at full capacity and unable to accept new enrollments.” Amazon offers an interest list instead, and says nothing on that page about current members. Check the page yourself before acting, because Amazon can reopen enrolment without announcing it anywhere else.

How much does Amazon SAS cost?

Amazon publishes no price and states that costs are customised to each seller. In Amazon’s Seller Forums, sellers have reported figures from $700 a month plus 0.3 percent of sales, to over $2,000 a month, to $5,000 a month. Those are individual seller claims, undated, and not a published rate card.

What sales do I need to qualify for SAS?

Amazon lists a minimum sales threshold of $500,000. You also need an active Professional selling account in good standing for the US store, one active buyable product, and at least three consecutive months with a sale. The minimum commitment is three months. Meeting the bar does not help right now, since enrolment is closed.

How do I cancel Strategic Account Services?

Amazon publishes a three month minimum commitment and nothing further. A seller asked in Amazon’s Seller Forums about the formal cancellation process and got no answer. There is no public cancellation page or stated notice period. Ask your assigned representative to confirm the exit process in writing before you commit, and keep that email.

Is an agency account manager the same as Amazon’s own?

No. Amazon’s representative works inside Amazon, advises you, and can move cases internally. An agency operator sits outside Amazon, does the work for you, and has no internal escalation access. One gives you reach into Amazon. The other gives you hands. Sellers who confuse the two buy the wrong service.

What does an Amazon seller account manager actually do?

At an agency, the daily work is catalogue and listing fixes, advertising builds and bid changes, case filing and follow up, account health checks, and a written monthly report. At Amazon, the work is advisory: a business plan, tactical guidance, and introductions to specialists. Ask any provider which of those two they mean.

Should I hire an agency or a virtual assistant?

Choose a virtual assistant when tasks are repetitive and you can write the process down. Choose an agency when the work needs platform judgement, spans several marketplaces, or covers advertising. Price the supervision either way. A low hourly rate plus six hours a week of your time is rarely the cheaper option.

What is Account Health Assurance and do I qualify?

It is a free Amazon programme. Amazon commits to not deactivating your account, provided it can reach you within 72 hours and you work to resolve the issue. You qualify with an Account Health Rating of 250 or higher for at least six months, no more than 10 days below 250, a Professional subscription, and a valid emergency contact number.

How do I escalate a stuck Seller Support case?

Build the file first. Collect case IDs, timestamps, invoices and screenshots in one document. Reply inside the original case rather than opening duplicates, so the history stays in one thread. Then use the Account Health dashboard and the appeal path attached to the specific policy. An outside team can prepare all of this, but it cannot skip the queue.

How much does Amazon account management cost?

Amazon publishes nothing for its own programme and calls the cost customised. Agency retainers vary by catalogue size, marketplaces and advertising spend. Ask any provider for scope in writing, the minimum term, who owns the account and data, and the cancellation terms. A price without a defined scope tells you nothing useful.

Talk to us before you decide

If you are not sure whether your problem is execution or escalation, we will tell you plainly, even when the answer is that you need neither. The audit before we start is free, and every file and login stays yours. See how our Amazon account management service is scoped, then send us the account.
